Welcome W. Charlene Ammons!
The Friends of the Library will meet at noon on Thursday, February 4th, at the Blue Lake Community Center on Highway 77 in Chipley. The program will feature W. Charlene Ammons, known to most as Wendy; she was raised in Chipley, FL by her parents Robert and Sarah Baxter. Wendy is a product of the Washington County school system, graduating from Chipley High School in 1995. She then went on to earn her Associate's Degree at Chipola College and her Bachelor's Degree from Florida State University. While in attendance at college, she studied the field of criminology. Wendy has worked in numerous fields since her graduation from college, ranging from a drug education teacher to a juvenile probation officer, and now to an investigator with the Walton County Sheriff's Office. She has been employed as a deputy sheriff for 5 years. She says that being a "daddy's girl" played a large part in choosing her career path; Robert Baxter served as the chief of police for the City of Chipley in the late 70's/ early 80's. Wendy has enjoyed writing stories for most of her life and felt it led her to write her first novel, The Plan, while as a Senior at Florida State. She credits several people in her life who influenced her to write and to make an attempt at getting her work published: her husband Brian and her 12th grade English teacher, Mrs. Locke. Wendy currently lives in Ponce De Leon, FL with her husband Brian. She has received positive feedback from readers of her novel and she is working on the sequel to The Plan, currently titled, The Lesson.
