Friends of the Washington County Public Library
Welcome Michael R. Reiter!

The Friends of the Library will meet at noon on Thursday, March 4th, at the Blue Lake Community Center on Highway 77 in Chipley. Our speaker on Thursday, April 1st is Michael R. Reiter, Attorney at Law. His topic: Credit Tricks and Traps (or to put it simply--- ways in which a typical consumer can be trapped by credit card debt with "over the limit" fees, and rising interest rates.
Prior to opening his private consumer law practice, Michael was employed as an attorney by Legal Services of North Florida and the State of Florida. He has extensive experience in consumer protection and has successfully sued debt collectors and defended collection actions and foreclosures.
A retired Naval Officer, Mike served on active duty as a Navy Pilot and Navy Seal. He is a member of the National Association of consumer Advocates and a member of the North Florida Bankruptcy Bar Association. He and his wife, Vera, live in Panama City. ( By the way, Vera is Euba Nall's daughter.)
Everyone is invited to attend!

Zedra just wanted to thank all who had brought in items for the Summer Reading store! Our inventory is increasing with each ‘Friend-ly’ bag of goodies! We all remember how fast we went through them last year! Keep them coming! Happy Easter to Everyone!

The April 13th book discussion group selection will be "Habits of the Artichoke," by Fernando Sorrentino. In the story, the artichoke takes on a life of its own. And, in fact, it has brought some of its friends to help in the process. They like humans--too much, it seems. Beware, they could be coming to see you.
Join Robert at noon!

Help us save State Aid to Libraries. Yes, they have done it again. They have no money for libraries in the State Budget. Here are some contacts we need to call, write, or e-mail. Do this as soon as you can. They will be voting on this in March. Thank you for your help in the past, and I hope we can get our money back this time, as well. Linda

Welcome Michael Lister!
The Friends of the Library will meet at noon on Thursday, March 4th, at the Blue Lake Community Center on Highway 77 in Chipley.
Wewahitchka's Michael Lister will review his new suspense novel, DOUBLE EXPOSURE. Lister's main character, wildlife photographer Remington James, goes deep into the river swamp to try some new photography equipment. While checking his camera traps, scanning images of deer, bats and foxes, Remington comes across the frame- by- frame capture of a shocking crime.
By exposing the criminal, Remington has “exposed himself”. He must do two things: make it through the night and make it to the river---and the odds of doing either are slim to none.
Michael is donating all the profits from his novel, DOUBLE EXPOSURE, to environmental protection of the Apalachicola River Basin where the plot is set. This is Lister's third visit to Friends. Everyone is invited to attend!

Make your lunch reservations by calling Rosa Nell Baxley at 638-1470, or Pam Butler at 638-0204, by noon on Monday, March 1, 2010. The cost of the meal is $7.00. February Friends of the Library Newsletter

Welcome W. Charlene Ammons!
The Friends of the Library will meet at noon on Thursday, February 4th, at the Blue Lake Community Center on Highway 77 in Chipley. The program will feature W. Charlene Ammons, known to most as Wendy; she was raised in Chipley, FL by her parents Robert and Sarah Baxter. Wendy is a product of the Washington County school system, graduating from Chipley High School in 1995. She then went on to earn her Associate's Degree at Chipola College and her Bachelor's Degree from Florida State University. While in attendance at college, she studied the field of criminology. Wendy has worked in numerous fields since her graduation from college, ranging from a drug education teacher to a juvenile probation officer, and now to an investigator with the Walton County Sheriff's Office. She has been employed as a deputy sheriff for 5 years. She says that being a "daddy's girl" played a large part in choosing her career path; Robert Baxter served as the chief of police for the City of Chipley in the late 70's/ early 80's. Wendy has enjoyed writing stories for most of her life and felt it led her to write her first novel, The Plan, while as a Senior at Florida State. She credits several people in her life who influenced her to write and to make an attempt at getting her work published: her husband Brian and her 12th grade English teacher, Mrs. Locke. Wendy currently lives in Ponce De Leon, FL with her husband Brian. She has received positive feedback from readers of her novel and she is working on the sequel to The Plan, currently titled, The Lesson.
